January 2008
Dear Readers,
You will be reading the 2008 Solomon
Islands Trade Directory either online (www.bjs.com.sb)
or as a hard copy publication. In either case, we thank
you for doing so. We hope it isa helpful document if, as
part of your decision making, it leads to investment in
Solomon Islands future.
This is an important year in the
short history of this Sovereign Nation. On 7th July
2008, we celebrate 30 years as an independent Country.
This year too marks the 30th edition of this Trade
Directory. We hope that no matter where you are in the
world, you will celebrate with us on 7/7.
We suggest editorially that this is
perhaps a watershed year. We have a new national
government led by Dr Derek Sikua. The detailed January
2008 statement from the Coalition for National Unity and
Rural Advancement is on line at
www.solomonislands.gov.sb. This documents the many
changes and improvements we can expect to see over the
next three or more years across six priority development
areas. We strongly commend it to you as part of your
business education about our Country.
More than ninety advertising sponsors
support this publication. Whilst around two thirds are
local business organisations and authorities, the
balance are internationally based and most have long
term stable connections and investments within the
Solomons. We are grateful to each of them for ongoing
support of the Directory.
You may have noticed the differing
prose and layout styles adopted in the business content.
We have chosen, as much as possible,
to allow the technical writers’ material to remain as
written with minor adjustments only. This has included,
where appropriate, material excerpted from published
documents, schedules and spread sheets. In particular,
we take this opportunity to say “thank you” to each of
those who have contributed to the 2008 Directory and the
many past editions.
The information was substantially
correct as at 25 January 2008. But, like all
publications in this dynamic world, changes occur almost
over-night and this means there is a need to check
before taking action based on information in the
Directory.
Lastly dear Readers, we value your
feedback. If you have suggestions for improvements,
changes to text or layout - indeed any aspect - please
contact us through our website or by emailing
